Was part of the MFA program with Vermont College. It's a low-res MFA program, and we go back to Vermont twice a year for 10-day residencies loaded with lectures, readings, classes, and workshops. During the semesters between residencies, we work one-on-one with our advisors on a semester project. I adore this program. Have learned so much and am really developing some much-needed discipline. I learned a lot but it was a crazy experience. I did meet a lot of really great peoiple, several of whom I now consider professional contacts. What program is it that you're considering? I think that that price tag is high. Then again, if it's a great program and you have your heart set on it, go for it. Of talent you can get into any good program. good programs (including iowa's) look primarily at writing. the other stuff helps because it shows that you are interested in really writing for your life. there aren't an awful lot of superior programs in the bay area. i applied to uc davis and got in (i have published in my college magazine only. i went to tufts but majored in biology.)in the end i decided not to go. i think i wanted to go …
