Natural SEO Is Easy© 2008 John H. Dow Natural SEO is simply following the guidelines of the search engines when designing or revising your current website. The search engines want you to provide current, valuable, and easy to understand content. That way they can serve you and your potential visitor by providing accurate search listings. And you should be doing everything you can to present unique and informative content to prospect visitors anyway. The best way to attract interested and targeted visitors is to offer something that they would like to know more about. Targeted traffic that fits your criteria is the name of the game in search engine optimization. Natural implies something that occurs without artificial enhancement. Natural SEO ( search engine optimization) is doing your best to present information to your target audience that the search engines can understand. If you do it right, your traffic from the search engines will improve dramatically and provide the type of visitor you want. A little research into your product area can help you determine what keywords and terms your target audience is searching for in the major search engines. Once you know what terms best describe your product or service and how many searches are being conducted in the popular search engines, you have half of the solution. The other half is making sure that your website offers the same information in a unique and valuable manner. If you sell tires, and you see that Firestone tires are searched on 500 times a month, it obviously would be a good idea to create a web page within your website about Firestone tires. Adjectives like cheap, low cost, sports car, or other descriptive terms will also be of value within that page. Naming and linking descriptions using Firestone would also have a positive impact. Firestone tire reviews, statistics, models, sizes, testimonials, and etc. would increase the value of the content and are directly related to the main term. Now you would have a wealth of information all relating to Firestone tires. The search engines would see it and present it to the searches on Firestone tires. The more unique and depth of information, the higher you would rank (or in this case, the higher you would be displayed). That's all natural in the scheme of things. You're not using any trickery like having Firestone tires being repeated 200 times on the page or using some popular term like britney spears on the page to attract visitors. You're providing good and subject oriented information on the search term intended. You want to be sure that both the visitor and the search engine bots (software programs that the search engines use to scan and catalog page contents) can see the content. You also want to not duplicate any other source. You can be similar, but never copy exact wording or you will get penalized or even de-listed from the search engines. One of the best ways to determine the best way to present meaningful and unique content is to get into the visitor's perspective. If you were looking for a new set of Firestone tires, what information would make it easy for you to make a decision? Is there some way to offer something unique or different that would even provide better information? Or is there another way to describe or provide pertinent information like skid proof tires in our tire example? Get inside the prospect's head and see what you can come up with to provide content that will be of interest. Keeping it natural and providing in depth information will enhance your rankings within the popular searches. Don't just go for the base keyword, think about what other related terms and information might be helpful to your intended audience. A good way to find out more about your potential customers is to look at the first page of listings under whatever keywords or terms fit your subject matter. That can tell you a lot about both what the search engines seem to like and what is actually working to get higher search engine rankings. It's easy to get
lost in all the technical aspects of search engine optimization that are
always discussed. What it comes down to at the end of the day is providing
valuable and unique content. Presented in a way that both the search
engines and the prospective visitors can find and use.
