SEO Copywriting Means More Free Traffic!

I often get asked to review someone's website for ways to increase organic or natural search engine traffic. One of the first things I always notice is that although the sales message might be good, there is no SEO copywriting in evidence. If you want to get found via searches from the popular search engines, you need to help them out by providing the information they need.
SEO copywriting is both an art and a science, especially if you are trying to sell a product or a service. You need to keep your sales message effective and also give the search engine bots (software programs that review content) easy to understand information.
This is not that difficult once you look at it from the search engine bot's view. One of the key elements in any sales pitch is listing the benefits. When you list the benefits, you should always include the keywords that best describe your product or service. And whenever possible, use popular search terms to increase your natural traffic.
Don't confuse benefits with features. Features are good but will not be as effective in selling your product or service. As an example, a benefit could be "save money with our auto shut off widgets", where as a stating the same thing as a feature would say "we include auto shut off on every widget".
Now let's add a little SEO copywriting to the benefit. After doing a little research, we found that people often search for a particular brand or size when looking for widgets. So we incorporate that popular search term into our description of the benefit like this:
Save money with our auto shut off red Armour widgets!
All we did was to add two descriptive terms that are also popular search terms for widgets. When the search engine bots come to visit and see those terms, you will get indexed under that information. When someone who searches for red Armour widgets your web page will show up in the listings.
Of course there are other ranking issues such as the number of competing web pages with those terms, how much related information is also on that page, and even the number of same subject links to that web page that have an impact on what position your web page is displayed.
If you adhere to SEO copywriting methods throughout the web page, this will be extremely helpful. The search engine rankings depend on a lot of "guidelines" and although this is a huge one, you need to also work on the other aspects of on page SEO too.
SEO copywriting is just one part of the puzzle of search engine optimization but it is a commonly overlooked factor. Selling is important and you really need to have a good sales pitch but never forget to add the details that will allow your prospective buyers to find you.
It takes a
little effort but the impact on your search engine traffic can be huge.
